Information:

For many years Orton bells were unavailable until in 2012 a ringing gallery was installed in the tower. The arch into the church is glazed and the ringers can be seen from the body of the church. The bells were overhauled and restored for ringing and snce then they have been rung once a month on the morning of the Farmers’ Market in Orton which is always the second Saturday in the month. Ringing is from 10.00 to 12.00. This is a great opportunity to promote ringing to both locals and to the many visitors to the market who can buy tea, coffee, biscuits and home made scones in the church – and both hear and see the bells being rung.

ortonoldThere are three old bells in the nave at Orton. Two date from 1637 and are inscribed William I Oldfield. The other bell is from around 1529 and was cast by John Wooley.
