At the Cathedral:
We waited for the clock to strike midnight and then rang on the twelve bells to welcome in the New Year. We celebrated with sausage rolls, mince pies and (non alcoholic) bubbly. Our latest recruit, the curate at the cathedral, Revd Dr Belinda Stanley, was presented with her Level One ART certificate. A memorable start to 2024 with great friends. Wishing everyone a happy New Year. Contributed by Ron East
At St Bees
Nine ringers turned out at St Bees to ring out the old year ½ muffled.
The muffles were removed whilst Tennyson’s “ring out wild bells” was read.
Twelve strikes of the tenor at midnight were followed by general ringing and firing in front of around 20 villagers who joined us in the ringing room for fruit punch and shortbread. The tradition of ringing in formal dress was maintained. Contributed by Gordon Gray
