The Venerable Dr Richard Pratt, who is the CDG President, retired from his work as an Archdeacon in the Carlisle Diocese towards the end of March. A well-attended Farewell Service, taking the form of an Evensong, was held at High Harrington on Sunday 17th March 2024. It was led by the Right Revd Rob Saner-Haigh, Bishop of Penrith. Richard’s wife, Diane, read one of the readings.
Our first encounter with Richard was at the ringers’ January service at Workington, but we’ve always found Richard’s sermons interesting to listen too, whether in the ringing context or at our own church. In supporting Egremont during vacancies he has led some services, including one Christmas Morning Communion. He joined us up the tower to ring for that service and then in his sermon said it was one of the best Christmas presents that he had had.
May Richard and Diane enjoy their retirement in Scotland.
