The Carlisle Diocesan Guild of Church Bell Ringers
Welcome to our website where you can find out about church bell ringing in the towers of the Carlisle DGCBR. Our towers are scattered across west, east and north Cumbria; extending from Irton, with its magnificent view of Wasdale, and St Bees, on the Irish Sea coast, across to the edge of the Pennines where Appleby and Kirkby Stephen, are linked by the Settle-Carlisle Railway. In the centre lies Keswick at the northern edge of the Lake District and in the north Carlisle and Brampton are close to the Scottish border and Hadrian’s Wall. So whether you are a tower grabber or planning a holiday with some ringing allow plenty of time for your visit.
Brief History
The CDGCBR was founded in 1975 to represent ringers in the areas formerly covered by the Cumberland and North Westmorland Association of Change Ringers which was formed in 1947 which had itself replaced the Cumberland Association established in 1889. See the History pages for a more detailed history of the guild and ringing in this part of Cumbria.
